As part of this year’s Kadayawan Festival celebration, the City Government of Davao in cooperation with the Kadayawan Executive Committee, Tanggol Kalikasan, PCEEM Davao, Davao Wild Water Adventure, Davao River Initiatives, RECON Xl, RCDG, PCG and the different barangays is hosting again this year’s Davao River Festival with the theme “Dawow, Tubod sa Sinugdan”.
The weeklong Davao River Festival will kick-off with the Davao River Forum on August 14, 2008, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Sangguniang Panlungsod. The forum endeavors to promote and create awareness on environmental policies, ordinances and laws related to the Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), to discuss issues on Solid Waste Management (SWM) and the IWRM, to present the best practices on SWM and IWRM, and to provide a venue for networking and convergence of stakeholders who will promote the proper resource management.
Next in line is the tree planting along the Davao River banks on August 15, 2007, from 6:00 Am to 5:00 PM. The tree planting activity will be participated by 51 barangays and Sangguniang Kabataan officials.
A white water rafting adventure will follow on August 16, 2008, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The rafting adventure will commence in Barangay Tamugan and will end in Barangay Lacson, both in Calinan District. Participants will converge at the Davao Crocodile Park before and after the activity.
The festivities of the Davao River Festival proper on August 22, 2008 will begin with various River Sports (bugsay, kayak and fishing competitions) in the morning while the River Parade is slated in the afternoon from Davao Crocodile Park to the Agro Industrial College Foundation. Popular Dabawenyo artist Popong Landero along with other local musicians will perform at the Davao Football Open Field (Agro Industrial College Foundation grounds) later it the evening.
The festival aims to promote and create awareness on the environment especially along the historic Davao River.
